Ethiopian Medical Association Open its first regional Branch Office in Mekele

Ethiopian Medical Association opened its first branch office in Mekele town on Dec 25,2016.The branch office will carry all activities as do the main office in Addis ababa; and it will serve for Tigray and Afar Regions physicians. EMA has intended to open  six branch offices with the intention to decentralize the activities and to become very proximate to every physicians who are practicing throughout Ethiopia. This means every physician will get a chance to engage in the protection and promotion of their rights. In addition, they will get Continuing professional development, inservice trainings and any other services which they are supposed to get from the main office.

In the regional assembly 70 physicians from different parts of Tigray region and Mekelle University College of Medicine staffs were participated and  discussed with  EMA executive committee. In the regional assembly,five executive committees—President, Secretary, Treasury, Member Affairs and Research and CPD focal persons—  were elected to serve EMA Mekelle branch.

Dr Birhanu Nega, vice President of EMA, acknowledged Tigray Regional Health Bureau  and Mekelle University College of Medicine for their extraordinary financial and technical commitment for the realization of the opening of the first ever EMA branch office. He pleaded the two to continue the support for Mekelle EMA.

Mr Teklay the deputy Head of regional Health welcomed the effort the association took to open the first branch office. He added that the opening of this office here, in Mekelle, will help the region a lot to create improved relation with physician in the region. Especially the branch will help to strengthen regional ethics committee.

Accordingly, the regional assembly elected the following as regional executive members of Mekele branch:-

1. Dr Hagos Abraha Teka: President

2. Dr Eskedar Kebede Belayneh: General Secretary

3. Dr Yohannes Tadelle G/Mariam:Member Affairs

4. Dr Binyam Tsegaye Tessema : Research and CPD

5. Dr Selamawi Kidanu Abreha: Treasury

The newly elected executive committee will serve for three years.
